K2-239 b

A rocky terrestrial orbiting the m-type red dwarf K2-239, located approximately 101.4 light-years from Earth.

Key parameters at a glance

  • A radius of 1.10 Earth radii
  • A mass of 1.37 Earth masses
  • Surface gravity around 1.13 g
  • An orbital period of 5.240 days
  • Semi-major axis 0.0441 AU
  • Equilibrium temperature 502 K (229 °C)
  • Distance from Earth 101.39 light-years
  • Earth Similarity Index 0.631
  • Travel time at Voyager 1 speed 1,787,929 years
  • Almost certainly tidally locked to its host star given the close orbit

Context from the literature

K2-239 is a small red dwarf star in the constellation Sextans, about 32 parsecs away from Earth. Observed by the Kepler Space Telescope during Campaign 14 of its K2 "Second Light" mission, it was found to have three hot, likely rocky Earth-sized planets in orbit around it.
